HOW TO HOST AN AUTHOR VISIT
Here are some suggested things to do, by a school or library, to ensure the most successful author visit possible.
SPREAD THE WORD! Simple right? You betcha!!!
Let students, teachers, and parents know an author is coming to
their school. Put up posters, author pictures, and copies of book covers. This builds excitement that a "special" day is coming.
ASK teachers/librarians to use author's book as an opportunity for read-aloud sessions, book reports, and other reading/writing activities. Art classes can draw pictures that celebrate the author's story or create original pieces that illustrate the underlying themes of The Color Machine.
ENCOURAGE classes to think up questions to ask the author. Difficult, challenging, and progressive questions make for a more lively conversation.
ANNOUNCE the visit on the public address system, daily, a week before the event. With students and faculty that are truly excited, the day is sure to be most entertaining and memorable for all.
